Mental Health Awareness Week: Move More for Your Mental Health

14th May 2024

The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is “Move More to Boost Mental Health”.

Our physical health can have a huge impact on our mental wellbeing. Evidence shows that the benefits of regular physical exercise lower the risk of depression, dementia, type 2 diabetes, breast cancer, heart disease and stroke.

Team sports also create a sense of community and a peer support network for those more difficult times in our lives. Ladies Gaelic Football in Antrim offers one of the most vibrant Gaelic for Mothers and Others communities anywhere in Ireland, with regular training sessions at nearly every club in the county and frequent blitzes bringing teams together, not from just Antrim but across all of Ulster.

For younger players, the benefits of physical activity have a huge positive impact on physical and mental wellbeing, and repeated studies have shown that participation in team sports can help your academic performance as well as your career prospects.

Ladies Gaelic Football is easy to pick up but difficult to master. You’ll meet fantastic friends along your journey, friends that you’ll keep for life. Use our club finder page to locate your nearest club and get involved now. Even if you don’t feel like playing you’ll find a vibrant community of people who love Gaelic Games.

If you’re struggling with your mental health, you can visit this page for more information.
