It was a cracking game, as two determined skillful squads, battled it out to see who would win the 2021 Antrim LGFA Minor final.
Lamh Dhearg set off quickly and pointed twice via Robyn Murray in the opening few minutes. Con Magees then settled into the game, defended the Lamh Dhearg forward runs over the next 10 minutes, but couldn’t find a score at the end of a lot of hard work themselves. It was great counter attacking football from both teams. A good move forward from Lamh Dhearg found Robyn Murray who hit the back of the Con Magees net for the first goal of the game. Both teams continued to play great end to end football and a good break forward from Con Magees found the net via Clodagh McPeake just before the 1st half water break. All to play for with a Lamh Dhearg 1:2 to Con Magees Glenravel 1:0 score line.
The 1st half continued with both teams breaking forward and being snubbed out by great defensive work. It took 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter before Clodagh McPeake scored 2 points in succession. The Con Magees girls where putting on the pressure and winning kickouts and driving at the net. Winning a free from a good move, Clodagh added another point for the Con Magees girls. Then after a well worked Lamh Dhearg drive forward, Robyn Murray took the opportunity to score a point to make it all square.
Lamh Dhearg pressured the Con Magees kick out and scored another point. With 2 more quick drives forward, the Con Magees girls where glad to see two goal chances just go wide of the posts. On the short whistle the score was Lamh Dhearg 1:4 to Con Magees Glenravel 1:3.
A determined Lamh Dhearg team came out with intent in the second half. Within the 1st minute Orla Donnelly in the Con Magees goals was called on quickly to clear her goals. Over the next 6 minutes, both teams defences where restricting chances, before Lamh Dhearg’s Amelie Annett scored a point from a free to settle the Hannahstown girls. The next 2 minutes saw Lamh Dhearg find the net twice with a quick free to the goal and a punched ball into the net from a long lobbing ball. Both teams continued to work hard to win the ball in the middle of the field. Caitlin Law, Megan law & Erin coulter of Con Magees and Ana Mulholland, Robyn Murray and Maddie Donnelly of Lamh Dhearg all making surging runs up and down the pitch to win the ball back for their respective teams. Lamh Dhearg added another 1:1 in the next 6 minutes, but the Con Magees girls continued to not give up and punching a saved deflection into the net to leave the scores at the 2nd half water break. Lamh Dhearg 4:7 to Con Magees Glenravel 2:3.
The remainder of the 2nd half was well contested by both teams. Neither teams taking the foot off the throttle of this pulsating game. Lamh Dhearg pressuring the Con Magees kick outs, where rewarded with a goal from a free, followed by a point. But the Con Magees girls came back with a driving run and well taken point by Aisling Donnelly. The game was still being played end to end, but Con Magees had the majority of chances in the next 5 minutes with 3 wides, followed with a goal and a point, from Clodagh McPeake free kicks. After some great passing play up the field by Lamh Dhearg’s Ana Mulholland found the net. Followed by a Con Magees drive forward, before Clodagh McPeake scored another point from a free. That was to be the last score of the game. The Lamh Dhearg girls celebrating on the final whistle with a scoreline of Lamh Dhearg 6:8 to Con Magees Glenravel 3:6.
